Long ago men used different means of long distance communication: such as smoke signals, carrier pigeons, or drum signals. The electric telegraph was invented by Samuel Morse in the early 19th century. People used a special code to transmit messages quickly and efficiently using the telegraph. The person who talked into the first telephone was Alexander Graham Bell. Today we can talk across the world using mobile phones and the internet.
