In this series of reactions, sodium bicarbonate $NaHCO3$ initially decomposes into carbon dioxide $CO2$ and an intermediate compound called calcium carbonate $CaCO3$. The calcium carbonate further reacts to form calcium bicarbonate $Ca(HCO3)2$, which eventually decomposes back into calcium carbonate and carbon dioxide in a reversible reaction.
